Resume formats are important when marketing yourself for a job. Conveniently, resume formatting can be handled within the Microsoft Word programs. Always know the direction in which you are heading, even if you don't necessarily have a basic insight of writing resumes.

Resumes are required for most job placement. If you have a quality resume, you are more likely to get the position you applied for. If your resume is out of format, unstructured, or flashy, you are almost guaranteed to immediately strike out.

When writing resumes, you could use the format provided within the Microsoft Word program. Using a template is completely out of the question. Consider the possibility that you will be delivering this resume via a fax machine. Sometimes fax machines will smear words within documents if fonts are too bright, too dark, or simply too vague. There is no need to highlight any part of your resume. The reader already knows what they are looking for. Stick with a simple and straight forward resume format.

A typical resume outline would appear in the following order: objective, achievements, honors, experience, education, skills, and ending with your interests. You could also choose an alternative resume format such as this: objective, experience, education, skills, interests, achievements, and finally honors

In my experience, both work well. The second is best if you are applying for jobs outside of the writing industry. When applying for a job, make sure the resume is not only formatted properly, but also that it is saturated with positive words. Anytime you write a resume and display the use of negative connotations, your potential employer will disregard the resume submitted. A great resume format will not make up for bad resume content. It will most likely be tossed aside or throw in the nearest garbage bin.
